I don’t think there are any “most popular”. Just defer to whoever is hosting, the house rules are always right.
For the most part it is up to the owners of the house. We play house rules all the time – here are some examples.
If both you and your partner miss the table completely without hitting anything (two air balls) we make them each take a shot of hard liquor.
If two players make a ball on the same turn, then you get them back to shoot again.
If you both make it in the same cup, it is worth 3 cups (they take the 2 nearest to the make) AND you get the balls back to shoot again.
If the ball hits the cup and rolls back to you, we let them take another shot by throwing it behind their back.
If you bounce the ball and make it, they have to take 2 cups BUT they are allowed to swat the ball away after the bounce.
If the ball is swirling in the cup (like a toilet flush) then you can try to remove it. Guys have to try and flip it out with their fingers, girls can simply blow straight down into the cup and it will pop back up. (Guys finger, girls blow.) With this rule, if the ball gets wet, it is considered down, so check it for moisture if you arent sure.
There are many others, but these are the rules we use. You can make up other rules, but these ones work well for us. If I knew what specifics you argue about I could help you out more, but those cover some of the “questions” you may have.
the most important rule, in MY opinion, is NOOO elbows!!
I agree with BattleBud for the most part, except that we play if 2 people make it in the same cup, it’s game over (even if it’s the very first round). The losing team has to finish the remainder of all the cups on both sides of the table. Once the 1st ball goes in, you are allowed to remove it from the table, so in order to pull off this win, both people have to shoot at about the same time. Or every now and then you can sink the 2nd one after they pick it up but before they drink it.
We never did the ‘behind the back’ shot though.
Also, you can make the other team consolidate the cups together, once they are only 6 remaining.
Rule #1 – must be topless =)
